Campground Biscuits

What is camping without homemade biscuits in the morning? This Campground biscuit Dutch oven recipe is very easy to make and fun for the whole family. A medium size Dutch oven from your local camping equipment store works great.

Campground Biscuits

2 cups of self-rising flour
1/4 cup butter-flavored Crisco, butter or other shortening
3/4 cup of milk

Cut in shortening into the flour. Mix in the milk and knead and roll out on floured board. Cut biscuits with a cup. Place in a greased pan that will fit into a preheated cast iron Dutch Oven. Set Dutch oven on a small pile of coals. Place 3 or 4 small stones in the bottom of the Dutch oven to set the pan of biscuits on. Put lid on, place coals on lid and bake about 8-10 minutes or until lightly browned. Immediately remove from the Dutch oven to prevent burning.

So simple, yet very good.
